What gears do i have are they 4.10's or 4.56's? I have heard that they could be both. I have stock 31's also.

Look at your tag on the door frame and check the numbers against this: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/vin/

If your tag is missing there are other ways to check, especially if you have reason to wonder if someone changed them before...

You guys need to realize that the truck could have 4.10's, 4.30's, 4.56's or 4.88's. Just because it is an auto or just because it has 31's doesn't mean it has certain gears. Example mine came with 225's and the 5 speed. Should have had 4.10's but it had 4.30's. 4.56's is the common size with the ones that came with 31's and the tow package. I've seen em though with 4.30's and 31's. It all depends on the package when it was new. MODS any chance of getting that gear chart put up in the FAQ section. I've seen this question answered way too many times lately and I haven't even been surfing YT much.

I probably have asked it before (sorry) I just couldnt remember and people that I know not on the forum tell me things and I forget. I am not used to toyota gears either Im used to Corvette gears of the 60's-70's (IE: 3.36, 3.55, 3.70, 3.90, 4.11 ect...) OK NO more excuses IM an IDIOT.

Joey I'm sure you're right but I'm still gonna throw my chips down on 4:88's. I'm thinking that's the most common set up with an auto trans in 95. By the way, is it me or are you starting to sound grumpier these days? Everything ok? Need a hug? LOL

 

Naw, I don't think you're an idiot. At least, if you're my age, then you're used to forgetting things....

I'd bet against 4:88s, they're pretty rare. I'd bet 4:56. Read the codes, piece of cake! Or, if you want to double check, jack up a wheel. Put a piece of masking tape in the driveshaft, say right at the top. Same for the tire. Turn the tire and count the turns the shaft makes. When you get to exactly one rev of the tire, did the shaft turn approx 4 full times, or 4 1/3 times, or 4 1/2 times, or almost 5 times? Simple and effective.
