3.slow to 3.4L swap questions

Hey all:

I've been researching the swap for awhile now, and I'm about to buy everything I need. I found a good donor engine with 26k miles. The engine is out of a 2000 Tundra, with AT. I have a 93' 4runner with MT. Is there any problems or differences with getting a donor engine from a AT vs. a MT? Are the ECU's the same in both? Wiring harnesses and flywheels? I couldn't find these answers anywhere I looked. Also, if I'm missing anything from the following list, please chime me in.

5VZFE engine
2 O2 sensors
manifolds
A/C comp, PS pump, alt
EVAP box
engine harness
ECU
starter
flywheel
clutch
air flow sensor
ignition igniter
ODB connector
2" body lift

Thanks in advance all:
Jeff

This is one of the best swap threads on the pirate board.

The 3.4 ECU will have to be from a 5spd. They aren't the same. A body lift is not needed if you do a hood scoop. I rather put on the scoop than raise the whole body up.

I don't think the the auto 3.4 will mate up to your manual. Read this article....

There talking about the 3.4 bolting to the 3.0 auto at the bottom there. The wiring harness they make won't work. The reason is the auto behind the 3.4 and the auto behind the 3.0 use two different types of reluctor rings. One has two pick ups the other four. A signal generator/multiplier has to be used in addition to their harness. That whole argument went back and forth in a thread last week. I also found out this weekend the 95 or 96 T100 may have had the exact set up we were arguing over.

Thanks all:

I know I'll have to get a different computer from a MT. I wonder if it would have to be one from a 2000 Tundra MT, or any MT computer from any 5VZFE donor.

Stock Tundra's have that engine.

No one has yet resolved the stock auto to 3.4 issue. I have a better solution that results in more gearing and a better tranny.

If you have a stick, source an engine with a stick. If you have an auto, source an engine with an auto.

Tundra's came with 3.4's but not with sticks.

Why is it necessary to get a MT donor? I can only find AT donors for my MT? I realize that there are diffs with harnesses and ECU.

Some people have found that AT 3.4L 5VZ-FE's dont have the hole in the crankshaft for the pilot bearing for a MT. If you can't look at the motor out of the rig before you buy it, its better to be safe than sorry and get a motor out of a MT rig.

Thanks 914runner. How much can a new crank run? I'm thinking that I would still be ahead even if I had to buy a new one, since the AT one I've found is so much cheaper than any MT I've found. What I'm struggling with is that I don't know the differences in the computers. I know they say to swap in the same year and model as your donor, but I just don't buy it. I've researched them a little, and 98,99, and 2000 4runners all have different numbers for the ECU. I don't buy that they are different internally. I would think that a 5VZFE is a 5VZFE, other than maybe the crank and oilpan. Or at least I can't find any info proving or disproving this theory.
