1982 Toyota Pickup dies once it reaches half tank
#1
Hello, I recently picked up a 1982 Toyota pickup 4x4 SR5 with 119,xxx original miles, 22r motor, and weber carb. Keep in mind I am new to these old Toyota pickups. I was having problems with a low or non existent idle but fixed it (kinda) by cleaning out my carb and the primary idle jet. However, it idles perfectly fine until it reaches just above a half tank of gas. It'll fire up and die right away, does't run unless your foot is on the gas. You could be in 3rd gear and push the clutch in to coast to a stoplight and it'll die with no hesitation. Low speeds in 1st gear it runs really rough as-well. Its got a new fuel pump and freshly cleaned carb, my next step was going to change the fuel filter however I can't find it. After doing some research I found that its supposed to be on the back passenger side of the vehicle under the bed, mine isn't there. The previous owner said he had recently redone all fuel lines, is there a chance that he forgot to install a new fuel filter or is there a different place the fuel filter is located (P.S. there is a filter looking thing in my engine bay but it doesn't look like the suggested fuel filter for an 82 online). Any help or suggestions on solving this issue is greatly appreciated as I've searched for hours trying to narrow this problem down, thanks for your time.

Yes thank you, I figured that one out and replaced it but I'm still having issues with the truck dying once it reaches half tank. My next step was going to be replacing the suction tubes and filter inside the gas tank just incase they're corroded or rusted out but I'm struggling to find the right part. The earliest year I can find them for is for an 84 but not sure if it'll work on the 82. Parts look about the same but I think my best bet is to drop the tank and figure out the issue for sure. Any input on what might be causing this thing to die or run badly once it reaches half tank would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!
