‘87 4Runner dies in reverse with brake applied
Hey folks, I’ve got some issues 😂
At idle, the alt on my 22RE is pushing close to 13VDC. All good. At about 1500RPM, I’m gettin 14.45VDC. Also good.
Problem is when I go into reverse, my idle drops, is a little rough, and the bottom drops out of my voltage. I checked at the battery and the alt with the same results. At times, the voltage gets as low as 8VDC, gauge cluster lights up like a Christmas tree, and obviously will die unless I throw it back into park and thump the throttle.
The times when it has died, the batt will be at or just below 12VDC and it will not crank, let alone start.
Also checked my trans fluid level in drive and it showed full, hot.
I swapped out the TPS with a denso part (less than a year ago) for a shifting issue it had when I bought it, and went through the whole setup with a meter and feeler gauge.
Anybody else ever have this problem, or at least something similar?

New battery helped a TON
Idle
Headlights on.
Headlights, blower & AC on.
Headlights, blower & AC on with the trans in reverse.
The alternator was built at a local shop, and they do good work. The battery was IDK how old, so I took it to get tested and it was pretty well shot. With it being Memorial Day and all, my options were somewhat limited, so I went with a red top @ Advance. I’m still getting a voltage drop in reverse (when the RPM drop) but now it doesn’t get much below 12VDC, and that with the blower, headlights, stereo, and AC all on.
