2WD to 4WD (Auto to Manual) Swap - What Parts Do I Need?
Have a 1990 SSR Surf (Japanese 4R) which already has a 1KZ-TE engine (swapped, replacing the original 2LTE). However, previous owner did convert it to a 2WD due to its city-driving-only previous life, and sooner or later, I do plan on taking this thing out on overlanding trips so I'd really need the 4WD capability, preferably with a manual transmission. Now, upon crawling underneath the rig, I see that the there is no front differential, no CVs (just some covers for the wheel hubs), no front driveshaft, and a 2WD automatic transmission with no transfer case. Question is, which parts exactly would I need to successfully do the conversion? Some estimated prices per part would greatly help as well. I know I can use a 2LTE 5-speed manual transmission w/ transfer case and just use my current bellhousing, as 4WD manual transmissions for the 1KZ-TE are quite rare and really expensive. Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I'm planning the same conversion for my 95 4runner. I'm not familiar with your engine, but I know you'd need all the parts you listed as missing as well as new knuckles, upper and lower control arms, manual locking hubs, idler arms, and steering box. That's all I'm aware of, but I'm still planning it out as well. For me, I estimated the cost to be around 3500, but if you plan to swap to a manual you'd need to install the clutch system as well, which is why I'm sticking with automatic.
