A340H transmission

A340H transmission
I have a 1990 SR5 4X4 pickup. The transmission has no reverse (I towed it and didn't remove the driveshaft). I can't find a used automatic, and didn't want to spend the coin for a new/rebuilt transmission. My question is: can I get a 2WD transmission, remove the tailshaft housing and bolt my transfer case on? I have also had no luck finding all the parts to swap it over to a manual transmission (I mean every last little piece I might need)....thanks for any help

from what I've seen, the 2wds have a different tranny, a non electric and non lockup A43? or A40 or something. My sister's 99 was like that. It was the first auto toyota I had driven and figured if my diesel drive train was like that I could live with it, but 4wd autos are different, have the higher slipping torque converter, and electrics. I know that someone makes an adaptor for the 2wd transmission but I'm not sure if that is for the 2005+ or earlier models.

I think I read somewhere a 2WD has a A340E...I may be wrong....I have only worked on my Toyotas....but I have worked on lots of other brands. I have not actually looked at a 2WD Toyota truck transmission to see if it would work or not. It seems to be a lot of the 2WD transmissions for sale, that is why I asked....

i dont think u can put a transfer case to a 2wd trans and make it a 4wd they usually make the bolts on different locations. my trans went out couple weeks ago and so i ended up getting all the parts off craigslist and did the swap to a 5 speed. best thing i ever did. i have a couple write ups on parts needed and that.

Where are you located at? I have everything needed for the swap here in Ga.
If your interested PM me.
I looked into the same thing ur looking at, I was told it wouldn't work. Something abt the 2wd tranny was different and couldn't be adapted.
