One size does NOT fit all.

One size does NOT fit all.
Desperation will drive a man to do crazy things.
I blew my 22r in June, (rod through the block, oil everywhere, etc.) And have been on quite the journey to replace it (purely through local means, I know I could just order a crated engine, but where's the fun in that?)
I have purchased multiple replacement blocks, and have ran into problems with each.
I now have a "Frankenstein" engine, with parts from 81, 83, 84, and a (87?) laser block (Johnny Cash sings in the background), and have somehow gotten it all together and seemingly functional (haven't started it yet).
I'm a few parts away from complete and I find the temp sender won't fit. Same sender in the same manifold that ran not 5 months ago, go figure.
It seems to be hitting the head (87) where it didn't on the 83 head, so my question is:
Did they change the size of the temp sender when they changed the deck hight and head?
For context the head is indeed from a 22r, not 22re, and the hole is still lining up for the sender, it just seems smaller.
I've always heard that the 22r's were all the same, but the more I dig the more I see how drastically they changed in just a short period.
huh.

For future monster builders.
My problem arose from using a 2nd gen intake on a 3rd gen head.....apparently.
Anyway, you gotta drill the head or use the lower port on the block, go figure.
