95 4runner shifting issues and transmission issues
My Wife bought a white 95 4runner off the back of a trailer on its way to the auction yard
Before I start telling all of you, the problems I've had with this truck, there's some very important history and why I'm probably dealing with this in the first place
When she brought it home, (30min drive) reaching at the highest 40MPH. Meanwhile it was shifting roughly, the gears were slipping all over the place.
She took it to a local transmission shop to get it looked at. They found a leak due to the clamp on the dipstick pipe not tightened properly and half a quart of transmission fluid was left. The shifting was obviously better but I've noticed its still rough specifically when taking off from a stop.
NOTE: I do have a knock sensor code and a speed sensor code and my speedometer/odometer don't work. But I decided that that shouldn't cause the rough shifting especially in 1st. ALSO: On occasion my O/D OFF light will blink on my dash but go away if I restart the car. It will take alot to get my truck to engage O/D even at operating Temp.
I do not have any Solenoid Codes eother
The things I've done to try to better this truck....
-KICK DOWN CABLE,The first thing I checked was the KickDown Cable I readjusted it but I noticed it still has slack no matter how tight I adjust it.
-BVSV, I did noticed on the Coolant Bypass, the switch valve is broken. And the two hoses that go to the canister from the throttle body are not hooked up
-TRASMISSION PAN, I also noticed that someone over tightened the transmission pan bolts and the gasket is sticking out.
-I have not Changed the thermostat yet. BUT the previous owner did replace the Water pump and head gaskets because I had them given to me with the truck
-I tried to Change my Speedo Cable and it briefly fixed my speedometer/odometer issues, And it fixed the speed sensor code making it shift a little less erratic. On a trip up to Eureka (179mile drive) somewhere between about 35 miles into the trip my speedometer started flickering and then stopped working again, the shifting got erratic and the speed sensor code returned. In order to get where we needed to go we took some very steep hills and the truck was barely handling it going 25MPH at one point up hill, My mechanic said that it was due to my exhaust getting to hot, the cable fried right where the cable goes into the body, he did bring me under the car and showed it to me so I got to see for myself how bad it was.
-This Car is VERY dirty between Rust, Gunk, and dirt. I did clean the throttle body but it didn't seem to make a difference, I also ajusted the accelerator cable and it helped slightly, I've also tried seafoam spray, seafoam cataclean and chemtool in the fuel tank, some power did come back
Id really appreciate some help on where I can go next from here. I'm really confused since the truck is shifting as if a Solenoid is bad but no codes for it. Wondering where I should start first.
