speedo cable ?? cel 42 and od code 42
My speedo/odo in my 95 4runner just quit working. The cel is showing a code 42, and now the o/d light is also showing a code 42 when I jump the diagnostic pins. The o/d light will also flash consistently when driving. From what I seen in my searching, the code 42 is mostly likely the speedo cable, and the od light flashing all the time means the cable is not connected. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I pulled the cluster and verified it is connected at the speedo, and also at the tcase.
Also, when I unhooked the cable at the t/case, the end of the cable came out (about 1 1/2 inch piece). I was able to slide it back over the end of the rest of the cable, but I question why it would come apart. Shouldn't it be one solid piece?
Any help is appreciated.

My speedo also quit about 2 years ago. I didn't pull any codes but got a check engine light. The dealer pulled a code that said the sensor was bad but it turned out that the speedo itself had gone bad. Hope this helps you.

could be it just broke.
costs about $60-70 for a new one.
it's a pain to take the dash apart. but while the dash is apart, if you have some burned out bulbs (like my ECT POWER wouldnt lite up), good time to replace them.
be careful. the TINY bulbs are like $6-7 each!!!!!!!!
