I have a 95 2wd 4runner, just replaced my blown auto with another from the junkyard. The trans seems to run and drive fine, but the throttle valve cable coming from the transmission is out of spec by the adjusting nuts that hold it to the bracket. Theres a rubber boot over the cable, and on the cable itself is a cable stopper. Haynes manual says that when the gas pedal is fully pressed down, the cable stopper should stick out of the boot by 1mm. My cable stopper doesn't stick out of the rubber boot at all, in fact with the gas pedal fully pressed down, its maybe a 1/4 in from sticking out of the rubber boot. The trans shifts good enough, and nothing seems wrong when i drive. Cable seems fine, no kinks or nothing. I noticed this before adding the fluid and even checked to make sure it was properly mounted in the transmission. Should I leave it and not worry about it or replace the cable? ?

Think how much easier it would be to understand your question if you included a scan of the Haynes manual page, and maybe a photo of your cable.

So, instead look at this: http://web.archive.org/web/201408160...32prelimin.pdf (page AT-116). The nuts on the ferrule of the cable move the sheath back and forth on the cable to get it in the right place. Yours is (should be) an adjustment issue, not a problem with the part.

Just so you know, the function of the throttle cable is to control how hard the transmission shifts, not when. If it seems to drive fine, it probably is.
