Hey everyone,
my trans has been making a noise and more so the colder it is.
375,000 miles on it, full fluid exchange 4 months ago and the pan has never been dropped.
The noise happened this morning in phx at a cool
80 degrees. 5 seconds long and sounds like a power steering pump low on fluid then goes away.
In colder temps a few months back, i may hear it for 30 seconds from the drivers wheel well.
For now, its moving just fine and i'm driving it gently. Its hot as heck in phx right now so i may not hear it at all with overnight temps in the low 90's.
Any idea....is it toast? Any thoughts on me buying a good used unit or having it rebuilt?
Anyone reliable in the phx area that you would trust for a used unit or to rebuild ??
thx !! Kenny S.
Kenny,
Ive owned my '01 since new and have done complete transmission fluid exchanges every 100k. Purely out of curiosity, I decided to drop the pan for the first time well after 400,000 miles. The pan had a normal amount of 'sludge' in the bottom, but the screen really wasn't dirty. I installed a new Toyota screen and reattached the pan using FIPG.
The truck now has 512,000 miles and still shifts like it did 21 years ago.
