Hi, I have an 1987 22RE 4Runner and just realized that instead of using the gasket for the oil pickup tube to the block, I used an O-ring (whichever metric O-ring seemed to fit in there well). There's a little groove in the mating surface between the pickup tube and the block, so I just sat it in there. I'm realizing now that I was supposed to use a (felt?) gasket. Is it worth taking the pan off again and putting the correct gasket in there? It would be a major pain, but the engine is on the stand now, so no as much of a pain as dropping the pan once the engine is back in the truck... Just seems like that O-ring should be fine, but maybe I shouldn't gamble
not sure if I would be confident in that , usually when there is an o-ring , it fits over a "stub" of pipe . The oil pick up tube surface is flat , I would be worried about it sucking in the o-ring
If it was me , I would put the gasket in .
I'm just finishing one up for a customer now
