I hit 500,000 miles on my 2001 4Runner yesterday while coming home from NC. I'm the original owner, have done all of the maintenance since day one, and have no desire to ever get rid of it. It has been utterly reliable. Only one instance of failing to get me home, when the original fuel pump gave up the ghost at 400,000 miles. Luckily this happened 20 miles from home.

In all these years, I've had a dealer work on it exactly one time. I was about to do the first timing belt job at 171,000 miles but blew my lower back out the week before. So I paid to have the work done.

Beyond that, Castrol GTX oil changes every 3,000 miles with a Toyota filter, plugs & air filter every 25,000 miles, transmission flush every 100,000 miles, and front, rear & transfer fluids every 50,000 miles. I grease the driveline zerks every few oil changes, rotate tires every 5,000 miles, and just generally stay on top of things before they become problems. My parts receipts folder is easily an inch thick at this point.

Nice job on a beautiful truck! May I ask, do you have any kind of paint protection on it, other than just good old wax? Just curious, as that's a great paint job. Still.
Also, may I ask, do you protect the undercarriage at all?

The one major difference in mine is I do the drive line zerks every spring and fall. We get snow that comes and goes here, and normally, a fair amount of rain. I figure it can't hurt.
I also pull the diff breathers while I'm greasing and make certain they're clear. Had one rear axle leak already due to a clogged up breather...

Anywho, congrats again! Now do it again, and make the million mile club D

I clay bar & wax it every few years. No more, no less. All original paint.

I've thoroughly coated the inside of the frame, and everything under the truck with Fluid Film a few times over the last 5-6 years.

Shifts exactly the same. Which is to say, just like it always has. When I put an oz of the old fluid next to an oz of the new fluid on a stainless tray, they both looked the same.
