400,000 mile club
#1
After nearly 17 years of ownership, my 4Runner made it to 400,000 miles today. As someone who performs all of my own maintenance, repairs, etc., I'm pretty pleased that the truck hit this milestone.
It's been a fantastic vehicle that has served duty as a daily driver as well as a long-distance vacation rig. It's covered hundreds of miles on East Coast beaches, pulled trees, towed overloaded trailers, earned more than a few speeding tickets, and generally been a member of our family since buying it new. It's never left me stranded.
The basics:
• Engine, transmission, differentials, halfshafts, u-joints (except the rear one) original to the truck.
• Oil change every 3,000 miles with Castrol GTX 5w/30 & Toyota filter.
• Complete transmission fluid flush every 100,000 miles.
• All driveline fittings greased 2 or 3 times per year.
• Front and rear differential & transfer case oil changed every 50,000 miles.
• Spark plugs & air filter every 25,000 miles.
That's about it. Apart from noisy tires at the moment, the truck starts, drives, and stops as well as it always has. I think I'd like to see 500,000 miles...

How many timing belts have you changed ??
Since these share the same front Suspension as the Tacoma`s Lower Ball Joints ??
Looking at a 2000 4Runner next Saturday weather permitting .

I've replaced the lower balljoints three times using Toyota units. It's easy enough to do.

Great to hear. I'm currently just below 230,000. I bought it at 189,000, replaced the lower ball joints, radiator and all fluids. Timing belts were last done around 60,000 so I'm getting to the point where I can't put it off much longer.
