86 toyota turbo pick up runs like crap when cold

Aux Air Valve? It's supposed to open up when the engine's cold to provide more air to the Throttle body. Like a choke, you know? It alters the fuel/air mix for a cold engine. As the engine warms, it shuts. The water from the cooling system flows through it, controlling how open, or not open, it is.
The air temp sensor in the Air Flow Meter? Pretty obvious it's job.
Same for the Water Temp Sensor that feeds the ECU. It helps, partly, the ECU determine the timing and fuel/air mix to use.
All I can see right off that works with temperature, most especially the Aux Air Valve. You can check it by taking it off, opening it up, and submerging the hose connections in water, so they get simulated coolant flow, and then warming the water up, like on the stove. As it gets hotter and hotter, you should be able to see it open up. Sometimes, all it takes is a good cleaning. to make it work right. Sometimes not, y'know?
Good luck to you!

Not absolutely sure about turbo trucks, but naturally aspirated 22re's of this early vintage have an idle air control that is operated by an electric heating coil.
I think the coolant actuated idle air control wasn't introduced on 22r type engines until a few model years after turbo trucks were discontinued.
