Vibration that I can not find, what have I not already done? HELP!
Good day to one and all, hoping all is well in these times. My 91 toyota truck 2 wheel drive have been shaking, vibrating in the
steering, seat and dash, it does this after reaching 55mph and up.
These are the few things I have done to it in the past 8 months. I am grateful I did the work, could not have imagine what labor would have
cost. Only now I am tired, and in need of help, Not too tired to ask for help, maybe their is something that I missed. thanks
I first went for an diagnostic due to the vibration while driving over 55mph.I bought firestone tires about one year now, which was balanced when
bought .I had them balance again less than 6months ago the same day I had the wheel alignment.
The report from the diagnostic, stated I need u joints and transmission mounts. I have replaced ujoints, engine and transmission mounts,
checked both front bearings, replaced inner outer tie rod, took the differential the machine to check for warp, removed the rear axle shaft
and examining the bearings. Vibration still here can, any idea? thanks

My 92 2 wheel drive had a vibration at around 55 mph, but it was not as severe as yours. Took the driveshaft to a shop, and they installed new u-joints, and re-balanced the drive shaft. That took care of the problem.

there’s normally a weight tac welded on a part of the driveshaft. sometimes it’ll rust and fall off, or gets damaged and comes off.
sometimes you’ll see old timers have a hose clamp on their driveshaft. they use those to balance the driveshaft. no clue how it was figured out where to put the hose clamp. maybe witness marks with trial and error?

There was a similar vibration thread on here a while back, and someone suggested looking at a light in your rear view mirror while the truck vibrates. If it appears the light moves up and down then it is something with the tires, and if it goes in circles then it is drive-line related. I agree that having the driveshaft balance checked is a good idea. Also check that the yoke is tight in the transmission. I have not taken one apart, but I believe there is a bushing in there that can get worn and cause a vibration.
Did it vibrate with the old tires? If not, then you might have an out of round tire that traditional balancers cannot fix. Hunter Road Force balancing might help, but can be more expensive. Out of round or bent rims could also be an issue. You can try jacking up one wheel at a time and spinning it with a ruler next to it. Line it up carefully and see if the rim, hub, or tire wobbles up and down or left to right. A more precise test would be to spin it slowly with a dial indicator at various points to see how much run out each wheel has. I am not sure what proper spec is for these trucks, but with a noticeable vibration the results should be obvious.
Make sure you are using the correct lug nuts for the wheels. Some are lug centric and some are hub centric. If you have aftermarket hub-centric wheels, you might need a hub-centric spacer ring to correct it.

Good morning to one and all. I went to Meineke for and inspection and was told I need ujoints . I removed the ujoints, I also lost my marks from the ujoints to the shaft. Is there a link of how to realign the shaft with the ujoints? Thanks

Good day to one and all, hoping all is well in these times. After 6 months of doing everything to figure out my problem with vibration issues. I found out it was due to a bent rim. while rotating the tires, vibration got worse, problem solved after 6 months!
