Hi everyone,
Im new here so ill try my best to make it clear.
Bought myself a 1990 toy pickup SR5 3.slow extracab 4x4.
Started trowing money at it when suddenly the cab fusebox caught fire during the night. I just got a new dashboard and cluster but now I need the cab fusebox and wiring, wich I can't find anywhere. Is there any company you guys know that makes aftermarker fusebox and wiring that would work for me or if you guys have any other idea, I welcome you aboard!
I looked for cheap trucks for parts but I can't find any around me.
I had that happen to my 87 4Runner. I got a complete dash panel wiring harness, which includes the fuse box, from 4Runnerhouse.com . The owner, one Joey by name is not only a great person just in general, but he knows, and loves, Toyotas. He is incredibly knowledgeable. Spends a lot of his time building up race cars, and dragsters. Massive power type stuff. His yard is a recovery yard, and specializes in the older trucks.
I called the dealer, gave him my year and VIN, he gave me the part number, different than any other first gen, even different from the earlier part of it's year. I read it off to Joey, and he said "Ahhhh! The dash panel wiring harness for an later part of the year 87, right? Let me check the warehouse, and I'll get right back to ya." Within 30 min he called back and said he had one, did I want it? It would cost me $300, plus shipping. Was that OK? It was to my front door within 4 days.
Now when my lovely wife calls him to see if he has something, he calls her by name, and is very friendly.
He even has a build-up thread for an amazing flat bed dump truck, I think 86 or 87 base to it. Really an amazing job he's doing, too. The engine is incredible!
You might want to look into why it started a fire. Something must be shorting out, or have a bad connection in one of those circuits.
My truck- if I left it the way it was probably would’ve ended up in a fire too. The previous owner put oversized fuses in all the slots. I didn’t catch it until I realized my brake lights didn’t work and voltage dropped the circuit. Fuse block started melting slightly from all the heat buildup in the circuit.
I sourced my interior fuse block locally on FB Marketplace
"Oversize", as in too big for the slot, or too high an amperage rating?
The last fuse I replaced was the ENG fuse, and I am certain it was the correct amperage rating, and it was a normal sized, regular, average, everyday automotive type fuse. It matched the fuse that I removed for size, shape, and amperage rating. I checked.
I suspect what happened in mine, was that when I pushed the new fuse in, I inadvertently pushed it's hot lead out of it's clamps that hold it place, and it finally worked it's way to a point where it either grounded, or touched another fuses hot lead. I'll never know, until the new is installed and tested out, since the fuse block burned completely before I could get it out.
Whatever caused it, yes, I will definitely determine that the problem is no longer present in the system. I'm a radar tech by trade, so I'm familiar with electrics. Intimately. I will, WILL, figure out what happened, believe me.

The PO put 20A fuses in every slot. i’m guessing he thought bigger is better in that aspect haha. Luckily no fires, and nothing super expensive was harmed.
My guess is one of the contacts for the bulb was corroded and started causing it either arc or build up heat from the resistance. The fuse wouldn’t blow from it being overrated for the circuit.. Either that or a loose fuse in the block, but they were all tight in the block.
When trying to figure out the problem I scraped all the dirty contacts clean and it still didn’t fix it. All that extra resistance had damaged my fuse block in that circuit. (slightly discolored and deformed in the picture). Anywho I picked mine up for $35 on marketplace, put the correct fuses in and good to go!
Actually could be the bulb because in the night before it caught fire my neighbour saw the driver side headlight was on and the passenger side was off. Still haven't find any wiring yet, got one from a 1993 4runner but it's not the same connections.
