Changing Instrument Panel

My '82 didn't have the gauge cluster with the tachometer. If I replace mine with one from the same year that does have the tach....should the wiring be there so that the tach will work? I assume the wiring harnesses are the same in all of those trucks and the right wires are used depending on the options in the truck...does this sound right?

My 81 Deluxe cab didn't have stock wiring for a tach. You would have to check the wiring harness to see if yours has the needed wires to the back of the combo meter. They maybe yellow and black
