Dented / crooked fuel filter, harmless?

Not sure how this got like this, looks like the inlet side got dented in and pushed a little crooked.. it isn't leaking or anything but would this effect its performance much or should I not worry?

since it’s already out, and you need to replace the crush washers, why not replace the filter?

Looks like the fuel filter I changed out last year, though the opposite end is bent. As far as I know it was still functioning, I decided to swap it out when my fuel pump failed, just for piece of mind.

Cost. Plus I don't/didn't want to have to wait for a Wix or OEM one to ship. This covid crap is putting a strain on both of those unfortunately, otherwise I would normally replace it for sure. I'll anneal the washers if I don't get replacements.

Weird!! Are you sure it wasn't your fuel filter that was the culprit? Maybe it was backwards (pretty sure they are supposed to be installed 'backwards' from a visual perspective) and causing the fuel issue and something is pressing our filters in on the inlet side? Not questioning your intelligence or mechanical ability, just a thought.

I replaced the filter first, then tried to get it running, before settling on the pump as the culprit. I believe the filter I pulled off was the original, and according to the previous owner who is a good friend of mine, it had been bent like that for a long time and running fine. I don't doubt that a bent filter could cause issues though.

interesting that you went about adding a catch can, but haven't changed the location of your fuel filter yet. you clearly have the skill to do so.
