95' 3.4 swapped with a 93' 3.0?

New here and new to fixing car in general. Wanting to know if I could put a 95 4 runner 3.4 engine in a 1993 r runner that had a 3.0? Had a mechanic work on my engine, a week later my head gaskets blown, which it was redone in may of this year. I have researched that putting in a 3.4 engine is worthwhile, as it has better cooling and less head gasket issues. I'd rather drop $ on a whole new engine than $ to repair a head gasket and more over and over.
