2nd Gen Square Grille Clips

My '86 pickup has these square clips holding the grille in with some machine screws, very easy to remove. It also had a couple of the thin oem tab-type that were annoying to remove and very flimsy. Anyone know where to find more of the square type? Not sure if they're even made for the truck, I can't seem find them in any toyota parts places.

Many fasteners are designed for ease and minimal cost of manufacture, not for serviceability. They friggin' suck. I replaced mine with combination of:
1) Off-the-shelf nylon expansion nuts,
2) Modified grille, and
4) #12 screws

You can horse around trying to completely redesign your vehicle, but I've found the stock style clips to be just great! The problem is that over the years, everything made of plastic starts to deteriorate. So the clips develop an internal fracture, and they either get loose, or more often the opposite (they get hard to remove).

So replace them! For $2.50 (delivered to your door!) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32844410672.html you can replace (almost) them all. (There are a few more than 20 clips; all you need to do is save a tiny handful of your still-working clips and you're good to go. Or go nuts and spend another $2.50 for a second set!)

It's your vehicle. Your choice.

@RAD4Runner, I saw those plastic expansion nuts at my local auto part store, that's a good fix. Most of my grille has already been trimmed down by the previous owner.

@scope103, Thank you for the link however I don't like the oem clips, just personal preference.

Lowes hardware has a drawer in their bolt section of all sorts of automotive clips. You can probably find something there.

Yes and they actually work better than aftermarket clips.

Original part # is 90189-04008 "screw grommet", non-OEM available in bulk on many sites.
