2nd gen grill removal

I want to do the grill mod with the gutter gaurd that is in the tech section and Iwas wondering if anyone knows how to take off the grill. I know there are a few clips holding it in but I undid those and still couldnt get it off. Are ther any scews or do you have to take out the lights?

Yah, I'd like to know too because last time I tried to take it off to replace my headlights, I couldn't get it off. So I took it to the dealer and they replaced and aligned both headlights for $65.

Careful, those little plastic clips can be a real pain in the butt.

No need to remove the guard. Use small, black zip ties and a wide piece of heavy gauge guard. Two pieces will probably be necessary....one for each side of "center".

I think I did mine with one piece and I inserted it from below. I had to pull on a bit of plastic but it went right back into shape when I let go of it.

I wouldn't remove the grill....I tried and damaged a clip. It wasn't necessary. Those plastic clips are old and brittle now.

Good Luck,

-Leaf

The grille isn't hard to get off, but it takes alot of patience. IIRC, there are about 8 or 10 clips holding it on. You need a long thin screw driver to get at them. They have a "T" slot that you need to move the clip down to to release it, then it pull straight off. No need to touch the headlghts. THis was on my 93. If you have a 90-91, it is likely different.

Here's a pic:

did you undo the clips under neath the grill? you have to take off the corner lights, don't forget that. once i realized how to do it, it really isn't that hard, just get a nice long flat head screw driver and push down on all of the clips. but don't forget the ones on the bottom (between the bumper and the grill) thats what i had the hardest time on, i didn't realize there were any down there. hope this helps!
