KWheels '93 T100 Build Up
So this is my second T100... my first vehicle as a teenager was a 96 xtra cab 2wd 3.4 auto... my dad purchased it new, and it became mine at 16. I wrecked it 3 times before I finally sold it for scrap, but it always held a soft spot in my heart, and I knew i'd be back in a t100 at some point.
I mentioned to my girlfriend that i'd be interested in buying a truck to use as a daily as I start my Miata Turbo project, and she found this one for me. She talked the price down 25%, and since the price was right, I pulled the trigger... below is my ongoing story of this truck.
T100 History:
1993 Toyota T100 3.0L V6, 4x4, 5MT
Purchased with ~211k miles on 3/29/2020
Had a dead battery, but jumped off fine
During test drive, Front Passenger side brake line broke, and was replaced same day. Brakes felt spongy, but were enough to lock up tires if need be. "Rear Anti-Lock" light was illuminated on dash.
AC doesn't work due to ruptured HP line
Small amount of rust noted on all 4 fenders, however frame looks to be in good shape.
No Radio, no spare tire
Purchased for $2000
Installed battery - $100
Filled with gas, realized that tank is leaking until it is half full or less
Bled brakes with power bleeder, and that sweet sweet braking ability is back, feel better than my old T100
Changed oil, 10W-30 Syn High Mileage, this caused oil to start leaking from engine in multiple spots. Sent old oil in for analysis- $35
Purchased used fuel tank, though it may not be the correct one(pretty sure its for a 96+ as the filler seems to be on the wrong side) - $75
Purchased Radio Installation Brackets - $15
Purchased additional parts:
Fuel Pump + Strainer
Valve Cover Gasket
Fuel Tank Straps
Spark plugs and wires
AC Hose
Fuel Filter + Air Filter
$215.85
PCV Valve + Gasket
Intake Plenum Gasket
Intake Manifold Gasket
Throttle Body Gasket
CamShaft seals, Circular cam plugs
Oil Drain Plug Gaskets
$72.16
2x T100 Side badges
Rear "TOYOTA" decal
Engine Decal
$82.16
Vacuum line kit: $52.77
Total Part Cost: $647.94
Replaced air filter and all spark plug wires, and spark plugs, however had issues with CYL 3 and 5, possible cross threading. Stopping until I have a spark plug thread chaser to try and fix them
Cross threaded sparkplug has been cleaned up and installed without issue. Replaced all easy-to-access vacuum lines with red silicon lines.
Oil analysis returned with more metals (99ppm lead) than desirable... will send in one more sample after this change, as old oil was used for ~4800 miles.
Finished polishing all paint, and applying "T100" side emblems, as well as "TOYOTA" tailgate vinyl, and 3.0 EFI engine badging.
Built a sweet 'covered wagon' tent for truck camping - Cost $50
Replaced all 4 tires with Milestar Patagonia A/T-R - $510 installed
Replaced HP AC line. AC System held ~29" vacuum. Charged with 12oz of R134. 2nd can didn't work, will have to top off later. Cleaned out AC Blower. A/C now works, heat is questionable, will have to further test later. - $14
Installed Sony XAV-AX200 head unit, back up camera, microphone, and additional USB port for android auto. Grounded out parking brake to bypass brake restrictions. Only one speaker working at a time..need to investigate - $102 total cost
Ordered PreCut window tint: $37.05
Total Cost at this point: $3311
Photodump below, roughly in the order photos were taken. I'll continue updating this thread as the build progresses. At this point the big question is will I be 3.4 swapping it, or trying to get the 3.0 running as well as can be.
