I'm wondering what this cable is because I assumed it was the detent or kickdown cable but what I ordered is way too short to replace this cable coming from the transmission and it was labeled "detent cable".
(Mine has a foam sleeve on it that goes 3/4 of the cable as well)
Well, first of all, with all due respect to Mr. O'Reilly, you don't have a "detent" or "passing gear" cable. You have a "Throttle Cable" https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/sho...rimLevel=18380 (Cable Assy, Throttle). Your shift points are determined by the computer. The throttle position (through the Throttle cable) just determines how hard the transmission shifts, not when.
But you didn't care about that; why is your O'Reilly cable too short? Because the distance from the transmission to the throttle depends on the body style you have. In the dealer site I've cited, you'll see three different part numbers for your throttle cable. You just need the 4th through 7th digits of your VIN.
Or do it the easy way. Write your VIN on a print of that diagram, and walk it into your local brick-and-mortar dealer. As long as you have the VIN, they'll be happy to help you.
