Hot start issues. Please help me if you can.

Hi everyone,

I got a 1989 pickup 22re, her name is Blueberry. I take the kids to school in her.

Heres what I know.

Cold start is good
hot start doesn’t work

If I use starter fluid I can get it to start hot but the car will have zero power.
I can barely push down on the gas pedal or it bogs.

when the car is cold it starts up and runs great.

I don’t understand.

any ideas?

I appreciate you helping me and my family.

~Severin

Sounds like dirty/clogged injectors, or weak fuel pump, or both.
BUT:
When was the last time you changed out the fuel filter? The injectors?
Are you sure the timing is set right?
Did you check the vacuum lines for leaks/breaks/cracks/proper routing?
The big tube that runs from the AFM to the TPS for holes, cracks at the elbows, etc?
The Throttle Body for loose bolts or hoses that could cause a vacuum leak? The o-ring on the idle speed adjuster screw for dryness/damage?
Did you get a CEL? If so what code(s) did it give you? Remember to clear it before you first read the codes out, and then try to make it come on again, so you're certain you're not reading old codes for a new problem.

Those are the few ideas I can dig out of my little pea-brain right now. I'm sure someone on here will have better ones. I'm still drinking my coffee

Like 2ToyGuy says ^^^.
For suspected clogged fuel injectors/fuel system I swear by STP fuel injector cleaner.
In 1887 my Nissan Sentra started hesitating when I'd press gas to accelerate. STP fuel injector cleaner in a tank of gas and it went away.
After coming home from Utah last 2018 my 4Runner did same. Same solution.
About a month ago it happened to the 4Runner again. This time it was more pronounced that it occurred when hot and when I feathered the throttle (i.e., in first gear from full stop, when I try to accelerate while in too high a gear). Same solution.
Maybe a full tank-full without the STP fuel injector cleaner would have fixed it also, but I never tried.

And monitor fuel pressure. Search fuel pressure gage piggybacked on CSI.

Are above symptoms typical of fuel pump going bad, or does fuel pump simply shutdown all of a sudden?
