Gear swap from 86 4runner to 2000 elocker

Just picked up an elocker from a 2000 4runner. Will my 410 gears from my stock 86's rear diff fit the elocker I picked up as it has 373 in it now. I dont want to replace my front diffs gears too so just going to put 410s in the elocker. Do I need new 410s for it or will they swap?

there is a thick and thing ring gear application but I cant recall the specifics for what got the thin one, pretty sure it was a front thing not a rear third member. should fit, because the elocker models were also offered with a 4.10. take a quick dial caliper to the thickness and check it before you tear it apart, would only take a few seconds.

simple answer is no. they will not fit from your current diff swapped to the e-locker diff. 4.10 gears are available after market or oem. remove the third member and have it re-geared before install into your truck or do it your self. Call nitro they can get you what you need or a local diff shop can do it for you.

Different carrier, ring gear size etc. Without a working knowledge of how to convert a v6/4cyl carrier over with the ring gear using the right bearings and such it would be tough for most folks to accomplish. It simply isnt a bolt on the carrier deal. The one on the locker is different from the older one without. It has more to do with how it mates to the carrier than any thick or thin measurements.

@ZUK

Is that right above, someone says new ring and pinion. I recall this as the 3rd gen "old bearing on one side, newer bearing on the other and clearance the housing ?

Bearings?

I'm also wondering if I need to buy a bearing kit for the elocker diff too or will my bearings work out of my stock diff?

Hi Co 94---
Yes, the gears will swap right over. The 86 has V6 gears and so does the elocker. I bet they are both 27 spline also .
By "V6" I mean long pinion head version....as compared to short pinion head in the 1979~1985 models.

The elocker will need an elocker bearing kit if you are looking to rebuild it. You can use the 410 ring and pinion in the elocker since the 410 is a long pinion head from the 86 models.

Rockstar as always, thank you sir!

(I feel a little bad doing that @ thing, but it works so well!)

Not asking the gearinstalls.com guy about a toyota differential, just seems wrong.

Like asking an electrical question and not pokeing RAD.

Or throwing a 3vze question at scope..

Or millball when I (butcher) a question..

There are alot of folks around here with some pretty extensive knowledge and experience on specific subjects, and we appreciate you all very much!

(Now if we could just get Darin and Jeff to field those odd ball RET questions, so I can go back to butchering maths stuff..)
