HELP, 1st gear not engaging, 3vze 4wd automatic trans
I have a 94 4runner with a 3vze and auto trans, and for some reason 1st gear won't engage initially unless revved up to about 4-5k rpm, but it engages 75% of the time in 4wd . Any ideas on what it could be? I don't want to pull the trans if I dont need to

I know I am a bit late in responding, but have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition?
Does the transmission not go into First in both the "Drive" range and "L" range, or does it work in one range but not the other?
