My check engine light is constantly on. Took it to the shop and they said that they hooked it up to do a diagnostic and it kept throwing inconsistent results. They said that it has got to be the ECU. Second opinion said ECU and/or mass flow sensor. I figured I’d start with the ECU first, since that’s the easiest to replace. Heee is a picture of my ECU and the one I found on eBay. The second PIN number is slightly off and wasn’t sure if it was compatible. eBay ECU ECU out of my truck
1. I think old87yota is correct about the number of pins. (while not conclusive, note how the 6's elsewhere on the ECU have a sloped top.)
2. Of all the possible causes of a CEL, a bad ECU is WAY down the list. I doubt that will fix anything. It's also NOT the mass flow sensor -- you don't have one (you have a VAF - volume flow sensor - different technology). So I would try to verify your first and second opinions. First, read the codes! If your shop "hooked it up to do a diagnostic and it kept throwing inconsistent results," it sounds like they didn't know how to read codes. Once you have the codes, you have a path to follow to diagnose your problem.
