New to me 94 4Runner almost starts
New to me 94 4Runner 3.0 5speed doesn’t run. I got it with a bad fuel pump. Stuck a new Denso pump from Rockauto in it. Filled it with 5gals of fuel and now it Crank’s for a few seconds, hits like its gonna run for a second then dies. I tried playing with the gas pedal but I had the same results. Checked for spark at the spark plug and it’s getting spark. With the key on I can play with the VAM flapper and here the fuel pump kick on. I even tried leaving the flapper cracked open to ensure the fuel pump stayed running while I cranked and nothing changed. I’m kinda stumped, tried pulling codes but when I stick the jumper in and turn the key the check engine light just flashes constantly forever. Any and all help on what to check next is very appreciated

Welcome to YotaTech.
Jumper FP to B+ in the diagnostic connector, to force the fuel pump to run with key-on. If it starts now, you have a problem in the VAF-COR circuit.
Try a small squirt of starter fluid. If it runs with that, you have a fuel delivery problem.
WITH A TIMING light, check the ignition timing. You can't get it exact with just cranking, but you can tell if it's close enough to start.

I tried the jumper with no changes. I’ll try some starting fluid. It seems the more I’ve cranked it over the last few days, it kind of runs a little longer. It sat for almost 3 years so I wonder if the injectiors or rails are gummed up from sitting. I’m tempted to pull the injectors out and clean everything as best as I can or add something to the gas that might help clean or loosen up anything that’s gummed up

It started and ran with starting fluid. I kept it running for a couple of minutes and the motor sounds very quiet. Now to figure out my fuel issue. I’ve pulled an injector plug and verified I’ve got 12v on one wire but not sure how to check to see if they pulse. The other deal is fuel pressure, I can’t find a way to check it.

There's the easy way and the harder way to check fuel pressure.
First, pull the return line from the FPR, and using 6mm (1/4") vinyl hose run it to a suitable container. Run the pump with the jumper. I get about 1/2 liter/minute out the return line. If you get significantly less (or none at all), I'd move onto the fuel filter.
Test #1 shows you have enough fuel flow to open the FPR, but not what pressure it's hitting. For that you a fuel pressure gauge and Schraeder adapter. On the 3VZE, the easiest connection point is at the FPR, and you need the 12mm adapter (22re usually use the CSI, where the adapter is 10mm). The Actron CP7838 https://actron.com/content/professio...ure-tester-kit comes with the correct adapter, which adapter you can "permanently" install.

Thanks Scope, I found someone mentioned Iceperformance so I ordered from them. I decided to try and keep it running with starting fluid and before I could tell the fresh can was empty. I expected the truck to peter out and die but it stayed running, rough, but running. It was barely idling at 500rpm and picked up to a little over 1000 after a few minutes. It sounds much better. I killed it and restarted it to make sure and it did. I’m gonna change all the fluids and start replacing the 900ft of vacuum hoses under the hood. Thanks again, if I can’t find something with the search I’ll ask
