"Accelerator" cable to transmission. If broke what happens?

1995 4runner 3vze 3.0 v6

SOMEBODY (not me) zip tied this cable go from my throttle body to the transmission, in such a way it partially melted against the exhaust. How long this was like this, I have no idea. If I detach from throttle body, I can pull the cable out more but there is no spring return back on it. If I attach this back to throttle body, drive truck around - by whatever means, the cable appears to slide back when I check it again.

If this accelerometer cable to the transmission is not attached, stuck or otherwise - what will the drive-train do or not do ?

The accelerator cable determines how "hard" the transmission shifts. It does NOT determine WHEN the transmission shifts.

Assuming that a broken cable leaves the transmission thinking the throttle is near-closed, you may get additional wear (slippage) because it is not shifting hard enough when the transmission is under load. http://www.cygnusx1.net/Media/Supra/...taTech/h17.pdf

Thank you for the information, it looks like I have some studying to do! I'll try and fix this cable soon sort this out. Internet want to charge me $80 for new cable last time I looked it up.

That actually sounds like a good price.
