Trans/ xfr case compatibility

Simply:
Will a Forward shift W56-C trans from a 89 pickup bolt up to my topshift W56-B transfer case?

My trans lost 4th gear and now the input bearing is getting loud. Haven't been able to find a top shift trans but managed to find a rebuilt top shift without the xfer case. Is it a simple block off plate fabrication to cap the hole in the trans?

I don't know 100% for sure, but to me, seems like answer is yes. I'm assuming your tcase shifter hole in the truck will have to be moved or elongated, and if that doesn't bother you, then go for it. I know that there are kits to convert a forward shift to a top shift, which implies then that the forward shift can be used in top shift applications, so I would think bolt wise and input shaft wise, they are identical.

My crawler box was forward shift. I trimmed rails to not bump w56b. Been running it for years. So feel confident to say it will work the other way. You will want a block off plate to keep trash out. Can not say if there’s a difference in floor pan opening. But easy enough fix.
