Letter and number stamped on my 3vze pistons

Hi everyone,

I am rebuilding a 300k 3vze engine and just got confused to choose the right rings because I noticed that each pistons is stamped with a number 2 and a letter B on top of it. Each rod has also a number 2 stamped on it.
I know there is 3 different grades of Pistons/rings and bores for this engine but I can’t found anything precise about it.
Most of aftermarket rings are std or over sized.

Anyone had this before?

Those numbers are for perfect selective fitting new, at the factory, and mean nothing afterwards.

No such parts are available aftermarket, and I suspect that such were never available as spares from Toyota either.

If the bores are standard, standard rings will be correct. Most standard rings accomodate up to .010in oversize.

If the block has been bored, the appropriate oversize pistons and rings must be fitted, of course. Precision measuring instruments are your friend.

Awesome, Thanks for that! I am feeling better and confident now.
I checked Pistons, cylinders, clearances, all is within specs and you just nailed it. Thanks again
