how to remove windshield trim before painting?

I've searched and found many posts on replacing the trim with a gasket, but I want to keep the original chrome trim and try not to damage anything taking it off.
I have a tool like this.

What i need is instruction on how to operate without breaking anything or the glass. Can anyone explain it or have any photos?

Thanks!
Tom

i don't know about the tool operation, but i'm fairly sure that you start by removing the 4 corner pieces, which are not held in place by anything other than the 4 main trim pieces themselves. gently work them outwards, and they should come out.

Mine was just removed removed when I had the windshield replaced. Dude used a small putty knife. All came out easy. Let me know if you need the stock chrome trim. Also have wheel well chrome trim available.

I was actually waiting for you to post this!

I will be keeping my windshield trim too.

There is a procedure in the FSM that describes how the trim comes off.
