Towing a first gen 4x4 via dolly?

Okay so we're moving about 300 miles away and due to having too many vehicles and not enough drivers I want to tow my 82 behind the uhaul. I was going to use an actual uhaul trailer but after seeing one, im not sure my long bed will fit on the trailer? It looks pretty short.

so if it doesn't fit on a trailer would I be able to use a dolly? Would I need to remove front driveshaft or something?

I know usually you have to have a 4x4 off the ground.

thanks

If you use a dolley Remove the rear driveshaft, its only 8 bolts
the rear output bearings don't get lubed

your long bed would fit on a u haul trailer. My 4runner fits on one

Okay that's good to know. Do they have the same wheelbase? I'd rather flat lowcon a trailer than a dolley.

This is on a uhaul flat tow, plenty of room for it.

That's awesome thank you! And yours is a long bed too? I'm glad I don't have to use a dolley

That's a short bed, but there was a few feet behind the rear tire. I think the long beds are 9" longer in wheelbase?

When I moved across Canada I ended up using a full trailer on the first leg and then used a dolly on the second leg. Both worked just fine but my preference would be to use the full trailer. Due to it being half apart at the time, getting it unloaded from the dolly was easier than the trailer.

In the end, both will work fine for you!

I'm towing my 'new to me' '83 home this weekend, most likely with a uhaul trailer instead of dolly. I'll try to get some photos to post during the process.

dolley works fine until you lose your transfer case output bearings down the road or your truck drops into gear.

always pull the rear driveshaft if using a dolley

^^ Yup...easy to remove the driveshaft. Mine was being held together with bungy cords when I moved!
