For what it is worth the quality of Stant has really gone downhill.

Very Hit or miss any more I get thermostats from Toyota

What model-year escalade are we talking about here?
Always specify model-year-engine-transmission-trim if asking for help.

For 22REliable, final answer:

I just put a new 190 in mine over the weekend. I would be hesitant to run a 180. 190 doesn't throw all that much heat and I'll try out a 195 very soon. Winter is coming!

Amazing mileage!
If that thermostat has 470thousand miles on it, I am amazed.
Many 1980's Toyotas didn't make it past 120k with the original thermostat.
I bought quite a few of them with bad head gaskets and that was the cause.

That's good. I am just surprised by the 180F beacuse the earlier (my 1986) 22re takes 190(88C) and the turbo takes 195 according to the factory manual.
I don't think there is anything inherently weak about 22Re head gaskets (or 20R or 2TC or 3TC for that matter), until the V6s came along in the mid-80s.
It's just that thermostats fail, people keep driving, overheat the car, blow the gasket and warp the head.
So you've no doubt contributed to the longevity by changing your thermostat periodically.

WOW! So cool to have that mileage!
So have you been using the 180-degree T-stat and regularly replacing it? I would stick to whatever you had been using then.
I just remembered that the dual-stat (here) I mentioned that is popular among 22RE owners opens at 185 and 190. I think a 180-degree if of good quality would keep the engine cooler.
Now you mention that 180-degree, I may switch to that instead of the 185/190-degree T-stat because my coolant temp goes up when going big hills.
