Greetings, new to the Gen1 4Runners.. I have an 87 SR5 thats had the rear re-geared to 4.88's to turn the 33x12.5's, but as it was never used for off-roading, the fronts are still factory. Im looking for the easiest and cheapest DIY if possible to restore 4x4. It is also still IFS.

 

Brian, no doubt the cheapest option will be to find a factory 4.88 7.5in diff. Certain year 4runners I think with automatic transmissions came with them.

 

later model 4x4 auto trans with 31" tires AND tow package only unless specifically optioned. I believe youre looking for axle code F144 for a 4.88 dif.
