Wiring advice re clinometer

Guys,

My clinometer has two similarly colored green w/ silver striped wires coming out of the back. I imagine that because they are the same color, they can be directly tapped to a similarly wired light like the ash tray light. THe ashtray light has two wires that are exactly the same color.

Thus, my question is: can i t-tap the clinometer wires directly into the ashtray light wires?

I considered grounding one of the clino wires and t-tapping the other one into one of the other ashtray power wires. That would be my next guess.

Weekend wiring gurus, let's hear it!

Bob

I do believe they are both ground & power Bob, so it doesn't matter how they hook up.

Since I have the same clinometer, mine is wired to one of the dash light wires so it will dim with the dimmer knob.

You should have no problemo tapping the ash tray or glove box wire.

Corey,

so are you saying to hook them both up to the ashtray wires?

clinometer green wire 1 ------> ashtray green wire 1
clinometer green wire 2 ------> ashtray green wire 2

Or are you saying:
clinometer green wire 1 ------> ashtray green wire 1
clinometer green wire 2 ------> ground

Bob, run one of the wires to the ash tray wire, and then one wire right to ground.

You will have to find out though which wire is hot from the ash tray with a multimeter.

If memory serves me right, the $15 clinomters with the Jeep or trucks on them you can buy at 4WD shops are also reverse wireable.
Either wire can be ground or hot.

Maybe shoot Hboss a PM, since he bought my old one.
I'm sure the Yota meter is reverse wireable.

I'll second what Corey said. I was testing mine on the bench. If you wanted to get real specific about it, trace the wire goes to the filament on the bulb. This one "should" be +12V. The base of the bulb should be the ground.
