Tacoma 3.4 suddenly starts missing and throwing codes now doesn't run!

Hey guys been awhile since I posted but I am looking for some help/advice. Today I was driving home from a morning of surfishing on the beach I was in 2 high on the hard pack sand going about 20. I hit a little roller that got the front end slightly light but not anything hard hitting and the engine suddenly began missing and stumbling. Engine temp was normal fuel level good and no check engine light. I coasted to a stop and popped the hood plug wires were ok. I manually twisted the throttle linkage and could here the engine stumble, misfire and run rough. At this point I was near an exit ramp so I threw it in 4 and crept of the beach. Once on the street it ran rough but smoothed out after a bit. I drove the few miles home and the miss got worse the closer I got home. Once home the engine pretty much bogged down and died. My buddy came over with his code reader and after letting it sit the truck fired up ran ok but stilll had a miss. It showed a check engine now and code PO 171 System Too Lean Bank 1. I then cleaned the MAS reinstalled and started truck and it ran like ˟˟˟˟. Now the TPS was making a weird buzzing noise and I couldn't get her to run. Plugged code reader in again and got PO 122 Throttle position sensor/switch "A" Circuit Low. PO222 Throttle/pedal Position Sensor/ switch B circuit low. P2135 Throttle / pedal position sensor/switch A/B voltage correlation. P2138 throttle/pedal position sensor/switch D/E voltage correlation. Under pending codes it shows PO300 Random/multiplie cylinder misfire detected. PO301 cylinder 1 misfire, PO302 cylinder 2 misfire and PO 171 system too lean bank 1. The abs light also started flashing at this point and now the truck will not run. What can you make of this mess! Thanks for reading sorry it's long winded.

Looks like your little bump caused something to come loose .

Did the ground for the ECM move enough to cause this??

Any harness plugs with broken keepers that might have jarred loose

ECM plug never fully seated

Something came loose from your landing the problem will be working through the circuits to find it.

wires pinched and cut from being in the wrong place

That is if before this things worked fine .

Truck ran great never has given me any trouble. I'm thinking fuel pump related maybe?

These issues have nothing to do with the fuel pump I would venture

Just how hard did you hit??

Maybe you just had the bad luck to crack a solder joint in the ECM

The only reason I think fuel pump is because it acted like I was running out of gas. I do wheel the truck and a few wheeling trips back I knocked the gas tank good enough to lose a little capacity maybe the fuel pump got shwacked and is now just rearin its head? I'm at a loss I'll keep you posted in the outcome. Thanks for the replies. I tried unplugging MAS and it still wouldn't run. As far as how I hard I hit, I don't beat on the truck and didn't air it out, just got a little light coming over a sandberm, nothing out of the ordinary. I was going a little fast because I was on the hard pack.

Do you mean Mass Air Flow sensor if so the Fuel Pump will not turn on if it does not sense Air being drawn into the engine

So if it is unplugged it will not start

The same if you have the Air Intake removed

My vote is a few injectors took a dump. There have been a dozen or so cases this summer. Myself included.

Had you been running the truck for a bit? 30+ minutes. Did the miss go away the next day?

I initially was thinking a coil pack was out but the problem seemed to evolve in that once I got home different codes started coming up and the truck went from running rough to not running at all. Also it was weird the ABS light started flashing? I was told to try unplugging Mass Air Flow Sensor and see if that's what's is shorting out with it unplugged it may run but not be driveable, but the condition didn't change. Unfortunately I ran out of options being I recently got a serious work injury and can't really mess with the truck so my buddy strapped me over to a shop, not fun getting pulled dead by a jeep haha! Though I have had to pull his dead ass home before too so we're even. The only good thing is she didn't leave me stranded in the sand, she got me home. I'll post up the outcome to help anybody else if they come across this issue. Truck is an 04 double cab with about 85000 miles.

Ok, so i dragged my truck to a local mechanic for diagnosis. He says it's the fuel pump. It has good power going to it and a good ground but is dead. Going to drag her home and fix it in the old driveway! Dealer wants $330 for a OEM fuel pump but I was told denso makes them for Toyota so I can get a denso much cheaper like $80. Is denso ok? I usually use only Toyota parts.

Lesson learned from this, don't run your truck on low fuel regularly like I do. Dumbass

All I can say is I hope that cures your problems

Some insist driving on fumes does not effect the fuel pump life I disagree

Curious to see just how your bump caused it to fail

You might want to get another fuel pump bracket just in case they like to break from being corroded

Update, dropped the fuel tank and pulled the fuel pump assembly. First observation was how pristinely clean the inside of the tank and all components were! Then I noticed something not right with the fuel pump, it wasn't attached to the fuel line! The mount that holds the pump was bent and the pump was just hanging by its electrical connection. Upon further inspection I noticed a large dent directly under the fuel pump! Some RauschCreek carnage rearing its head. So since we had it all apart we put in the new fuel pump and double clamped it, original only had single clamps. We are also going to use a fuel resistant zip tie to further insure it will not come lose again. Apparently that one time I got high centered on my fuel tank left some permanent damage. The funny thing is, my gas tank skid shows no sign of trauma it must have deflected allowing the tank to take the hit then bounced back. We are going to weld some more plate on the skid to beef it up to prevent further damage. Also, the factory pump is marked Denso and identical to the Denso I ordered from rockauto.
