Unhappy Light Switches !!!

Hey guys,
need some help, have been tracking down those light switches that Corey uses, or I'm sure you all use, the ones that fit into the stock holes on the dash or near the shifter.
NO one in australia has them ! so it looks like i am going to have to get them from the states. apart from Performance Products where else can i get them (because there $45 there !)
cheers

Dan.

Hi Dan, try any of the online Toyota dealers:

http://www.toyotaworld.com/

http://www.partznet.com/

http://www.toyotaparts4u.com/

http://www.toyotaguys.com/

The part # for the switch is:
00550-35976.
They should be able to ship you one to OZ, or maybe your local dealer can order it with the part #?

Bill, the switch you have on the left side with two lights on it, is it different from the other two in how it works, or just a different design?

Yep it's different. It's a 3 pos switch, center off. I use it for the extra back-up lights on top of my rack so that the positions are on with reverse, off, or on. The switch is wired through the parking lights so that they will not work unless the parking lights come one. It's a single pole switch so I had to take it apart and do some rewiring of the little bulbs to accomplish what I want, and used two seperate relays - one activated by the reverse+ and one activated by the acc+.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. That is cool that they make single way and three way switches! Pretty neat idea and they look really cool in the console! Nice work dude! :beaver:

Can't remember the color of the wire, but on each side under the scuff plates are some wire bundles that head to the back of the runner for the lights. I just turn on acc, throw it in reverse so the lights are, and stick in my tester (I have one with an aligator clip on one end I clip to ground and the other end is sharp point with light in the handle) into each wire until I see it light up. If it lights then I throw it out of reverse, if light goes off then this is the reverse+. You can do the same thing for parking light+, it's in the same bundle. It doesn't matter if you pick either the pass or driver side, they both have these wires.

I looked in my 2000 shop manual. The wire should be red with yellow stripe. Check that one first. Let us know if that is correct.

Don't remember, but I do know that whatever my manual said for 97 was wrong, they probably change colors every year just to confuse us .

Thanks Bill,
I have the 01 wiring SM and it was talking about that side panel area but I couldn't tell how far I was gonna have to burrow up in there to find the wirebundle. Good to knoe it won't be an all weekend project. Thanks!

OK, in my 2001 wiring manual they list it as a W-L white wire w/ blu stripe. THOUGHT I had it... went pos to about 11v w/ the BU position selected, but when I connected it to the hot to the B/U relay, No go... Anybody have a idea why 1) only 11v and 2) whether this is enough to throw the standard Hella fog lamp relay? I tapped off the drivers side connection behind the 4WD control box w/ an inline splice tap. The switch I wired works GREAT... Woe be to the next SOB who comes up behind me who doesn't know that little blue light on the dash means "Turn off the brights stoopid" :pat:

Is your voltage reading while the truck is off? Sometimes on weaker batteries they will actually read 11.5 - 11.8 volts with the alternator charging them. Try starting the engine and see if the voltage is the same.

Ey, here's a silly question. Where can one find a black snap in cover for the switch locations? When I sold my truck I had some switches in several places, and took them out. Now I got some nice little holes in the plastic plates.

That be a good one Adam.
I would think the dealer would be able to get them. I just looked on Cole's site and did not see any.

Any luck yet on tracking down a clean 1st gen?

I guess the stealer is the only way to go.

No luck yet. Come July i'm looking out west with Steve's help, and having it shipped back to its rusty grave.
