I am new to this community but I have had a toyota for awhile now, I have a 92 Pickup with the 3VZE that i wrecked not too long after I got the head gaskets done which was a bummer. I recently acquired a 95 SR5 limited with a trash 3VZE in it and i got it to swap my motor into (both automatics) i was just wondering if anyone could give me any advice on this specific swap and how much stuff (if any) is different. i've got the 4runner motor down to the engine mounts and transmission left holding it in.
The engines are basically the same, but there may be differences between year wiring harness and vac lines etc. Basically pull both, drop the new engine in and swap over any thing that doesn't plug in the same. What ever was on the 95 that is different, swap over to the 92 engine.
When you don't have an engine hoist you have to improvise! Pulling the 4Runner engineBorrowed an engine hoist finally! this is the engine out of my 92 pickup. it was completely rebuilt before I wrecked it. perfect transplant for the Runner.
Here is the pickup engine in the runner, went surprisingly smooth!
I did find out the A/C compressor has a different hose connector on it which is a pretty simple fix, also the 4 runner had a different alternator plug so i had to swap alternators which wasn't bad at all, the wiring harness for the 4 runner matched perfectly and i didn't have any spare connectors left after plugging them all in. i also had to use the throttle body off of the 4 runner on my 92 intake due to the 4 runner being set up with cruise control. All i'm lacking is putting in the radiator, air filter and giving her some fresh fluids before i can see if she will start! first motor swap went really well all together!
