Oil Cooler hose question 3.0 v6
I just noticed that my oil cooler has the hose that is supposed to run to the water pump is disconnected and plugged, due to the water pump on it does not have to tube for it to connect to. Also the oil cooler is leaking and I can tell that the coolant lines are all clogged up with gunk and rust. I would like to fix all of this and reinstall the coolant line for the oil pump to the water pump. Question is, can I install a tube onto the water pump I have now, or need to buy one with tube, OR is there another place to reroute the hose??
I want to try to keep this engine running as cool as possible in this Florida heat.(1995 4runner 3.0 V6)

You'll just need to get the correct pump. RockAuto has them for as little as $16.
You may need to replace the cooler, if it is clogged. Mine does not have the oil cooler (there is a cap on the block where your oil cooler goes), so I can't find the name or source of the part.

The cooler it's self has 3 O rings that seal it. A large one that sits at the base like a oil filter would, a small O ring that sits inside on the lip, and a crush type O ring that seals it from the bolt on the out side. Bolt is torqued to 44 Ft-Lbsif I remember but please double check that number to confirm.
As stated above you will have to replace the water pump if you want to hook up the cooler lines. If the lines are in bad shape you can still find the pre formed lines from Toyota or other venders.
The coolers are expensive however assuming yours is not cracked it may be salvageable. What worked for mine was taking a coffee can and filling about half way up with a rust removing soluition and soaking it for about 6 hours and then flushing it out. After a little scrubbing it looks brand new and water flows freely.

Ok well I'm not going to tear the front of the engine off again as I just did the timing belt, so that sucks that I didn't notice it before. Question now is can I cap all of this off? And why Se has coolers and some don't? Must not be a "must have" part?

Some people add a second oil filter in that location. All you need is the peace that threads into the block that the oil filter threads on to. You can get this from Toyota. It does add some capacity and cooling to the system and is probably the cheapest option. If you live In a place where you can find old toyotas in the bone yards or a parts vehicle you can probably get the peace off any 3vze for $5-$10 (it's the same peace that the oil filter threads on to)
You could also add a sandwich plate and build a custom air style oil cooler that I have seen a few run.
personaly unless you live some place very hot or tow near the max capacity regularly I would just add the extra filter and call it a day.

I have decided to put in another oil filter in its place. I went to the dealership today and order the piece for the filter to screw onto. So hopefully this will solve the leaks. I'm going to just plug the coolant line that runs from the block.
