Just like it says on the tin, how do you get that stubborn little pump out? It doesn't have any fluid in it, belts are off, mounting bracket's disconnected. But the pin behind the pulley will not come out! We can't remove the pulley either. We're a bunch of poor 17 year olds who's only resource is time and a box of wrenches. I can provide pics of the issue if necessary but the thing has brought us to our knees. The only tutorial we can find is for the 1st Gen 4Runners, or for 2nd Gen 4Runners with the 22RE. So please provide me with your knowledge and experience. Thank you in advance!

(PS We spent like 2-3 hours just trying to take apart bolts and the like and are all about to )

 

Why are you removing the pump in the first place?

you need to get the pulley off. Once that is off you can fully remove the pivot bolt. Or you need to remove all related brackets to the pump. Are you trying to replace the pump?

 

Yeah, pump leaks like a sieve. I have a replacement pump, and belt just need to install. Thanks, hopefully we can get it off tomorrow!

 

I read a little bit into the causes for leaks in similar rigs to mine. I don't know what the PO Used for power steering fluid. But I do know he ripped the whole PS assembly apart twice looking for the leak. Do you think if he used the wrong stuff for PS Fluid (Not ATF) That it could cause a leak which he (A Toyota certified Mechanic) Couldn't trace?

There may be some way to substitute for that with the pump half-off, but all the ways I can think of have a pretty good risk of hurting yourself. Take ten minutes to re-install enough to get the belt on and tensioned, then loosen the nut. Once the pulley if off you can get to the bolts (as vital22re says).

 

Have to get that pulley off using the PS belt as scope103 mentioned or impact wrench & air compressor.
