91 4runner 3.0 hot start issues

Another hot start thread. It will start and run fine, I can drive it anywhere with no problems, but if I shut it off for 15-20 minutes it will start choke down and die. If I get it started before 10 minutes I can get it going but it runs rough a couple minutes then it's fine. Both ways come with an old gas odor. Iv replaced the airflow sensor, could, CSI, all plugs and wires, distributor cap, and the efi regulator I think. I don't want to keep throwing parts at it. I'm swapping the r12 out for r134 since the lines are completely empty of r12. I don't want to keep spending money on it for nothing. Any tests I can do for different parts is welcome as long as it doesn't cost a lot. It does not throw any codes. Has 191k miles I got it at 160 n it had this issue before I bought it.

Vapor lock? The Fuel Pressure-up system is designed to address just that. http://web.archive.org/web/201503060...ne/99fuelp.pdf

You might also want to rule out any problem with the ECT sensor.

Might be a bad fuel injector. When my 4runner was cold, it would drive/start fine. Park somewhere for 20 mins or so, would run and idle terrible.

Il check what I can. My gfs dad put a pressure gauge on it and it held normal psi. Shut the engine off and it slowly goes down to zero. Start it in time n it goes back to normal psi.

I think it may be injector 4. I to all the sparkplugs out n and the others had the normal burnt end bud number 4 was black and covered in fuel. That being said it could be spraying fuel and fouling out. Also putting fuel into the exhaust and back through the egr into the intake. The inside of my intake is wet and sticky.

Was not injector 4. Replaced the o2 sensor since it went out and the tps for a different problem. Nothing changed. I'm stuck out in the heat until it starts.

Extra information. When it goes to die its only running on a cylinder or two. The it will die and the engine and battery lights come on. It also shakes badly but that may be due to the worn out mount.

was plagued with hot starting for over a year as well and delt with it stalling at idle red lights and stop signs, wouldnt start for over an hour after cooling.. i replaced all my vac hoses because of a vac leek, didnt fix the hot start but helped it run better. Replaced cap/rotor, serviced the entire intake plenum suroudnings, gaskets, hoses, cold start injector, serviced the injectors, new spark plugs/wires, all helps but still no fox on hot start. Later found out i had a double missfire, dead injector #1 and a bad distributor, replaced them both and no longer unable to hot start!! runs great. Not sure if it was either or that fixed the issue.
