22RE head gasket differences

I have been working on my son's 85 22 RE truck. I have used 2 NAPA head gaskets, and 1 ROL .020" thicker gasket.

1st one was installed due to freshening up the engine
2nd one blew because of hydraulic (can't compress water!)
3rd one blew because low on water (??????? not sure on that yet)

Just out of curiosity, I asked the dealer to see a factory Toyota gasket. It is WAY different!
It looks to use a lot of the new multilevel steel technology in it. It has steel wherever it is suposed to block a water passage. It has re-enforcing rings at several head bolt holes. I love the look of it......enough that I bought 1 for $37

I'll try to post picks of it and the install

I won't run anything but a stock Toy headgasket on my 22RE after seeing an aftermarket one from Schuck's.

Look forward to seeing the picture of this head gasket. Toyota, as a result of the 3.0 V-6 debacle, has probably become quite gun shy of head gaskets, and is making or having made very good units.

While I've replaced two with FelPro units with no problems, in the future I may use the Toyota unit.

My experience (having rebuilt a few engines in my garage) is that aftermarket gaskets are nowhere near the quality of OEM. And with something as important as the headgasket, it's hard to justify taking a risk like that just to save $15.

$37 is not a bad price either. I had to pay $50 for a Mazda headgasket.

Will a Toyota Headgasket for a 22RE fit a motor that has been bored over .02"? I was told by a local parts store that it would fit.
