hi all, thought i would share some pics of my weekends work. the whole job probably set me back about $70aud and took around 10 hours accumulatively. i got everything from the local hardware. i made it out of 90mm pvc drainpipe (and it even has its own stainless bug/leaf screen lol) install is on a 92 v6 4runner (rhd)

Ill take a photo today, i used a 80-90mm straight adaptor, the 80mm fits nicely into the original airbox hole. i cut the adaptor to the right length for clearance between the airbox and headlight. that went into a 45, followed by a 22.5, and then into a 90 which u can c that i needed to mould an impression into, to gain clearance for the back of the indicator housing. I used silicone on 3 of the joints along the entire snorkel so that it can be removed with a bit of persuasion if need be. I siliconed the joint coming through the exterior guard, the 90deg elbow going through the inner engine bay panel, and the adaptor into the airbox. The rest of it was glued and sealed with pvc cement.

simply-yes, but in my books... bigger is always better. the 90mm (3-1/2") was just a tiny bit tight to get in the guard, i had to put a little bit of pressure on the guard to get the bolts in at the very front under the indicator, but it still sits nice and flush. the next smaller size of pvc drainpipe commonly used over here is 75mm (2-15/16" or 3"), and the 75mm also comes in a thicker wall which would be better in terms or rigidity. but it also makes me err on the side of caution because the factory hole into the airbox is 80mm. i know a 5mm decrease in pipe size is not much, but over the entire length of the snorkel it could act as a slight restriction???

i put my hand infront of the inlet while the engine was idling and it was sucking like a taiwanese hooker...if u went for the 75mm it could probably suck a golf ball through a garden hose lol

i dont see the need for anything else, the normal filter will catch anything that manages to get through the mesh. And if she gets full of mud or clogged with bug guts, all i need to do is remove 1 screw and scrub the mesh insert under the tap with a soft brush

 

Yeah, Thats all I was talking about. Something to keep the brids and road debris out of. haha.

 

mine is 2.5 approx. at the throttle body. I dont see why 2.75 wouldnt work and not look so massive. maintain a 2.5 inside diameter. but being oversees i can see yours being different than ours.
