22re cylinder head replacement/timing chain adjuster help

I replaced my cylinder head on my 22re...I forgot to put a wedge down into the timing chain tensioner to keep it from coming out...well now I can not put the cam gear back on. Is there any way to release chain tension without removing the timing chain cover so I could put the cam back on ?

It has been a few years

So the old tired brain might not recall correct

I never used anything to hold the chain tensionor

Put the bottom all together set the head on then put the cam gear on

Someone with fresh memories might have a better idea.

First I heard about this wedge idea

I was able to stick a long rod down in there and push the adjuster in, then the cam went on without any problems.

Put part of the chain on the cam sprocket the put sprocket on cam then turn the cam until the chain goes back on. Like you would with an old bicycle chain and sprocket.
