Jzx3rz 86 sas 3rz 4Runner
Hey everyone, so after building drift cars for 6 plus years and not really paying attention to 4wheelers and crawlers I finally got hit with the bug. Never thought it would come but it did. Iv been a huge Toyota guy for the past few years. My main current project is a 1jz Cressida. Along side that is my is300. Up until a week ago I was also daily driving and building a jzs167 gs300, I actually traded this for the runner. Okay on to the good stuff. It's a 86 with full leaf spring conversion and single axle conversion. High steer kit (no damper I need one) Has a 5/6 inch lift on 35s. Also has a 3rz out of a 96 Tacoma. The rig needs work but is all really there. Rear pinion angle needs to be set has a nasty vibration right now. Front driveshaft has a spacer in it which I hear is a cheap fix so I want to extend that correctly. Front shock hoops were jank welded on in completely the wrong spot. Rear shocks are blown. Rear shackle mounts need to be moved back. Worst of all right now it has a cracked bell housing so I'm addressing that first so I can drive it. Previous owner also welded rear diff which sucks. Here's some pics of the rig.

Hahahaha! LOFTY!
How the hell are ya, my username was meant to attract the jz nuts, mission accomplished. Very sweet jz runner! ^ how's it do on trails with it?
.... Edit: is300 is in fact my girls daily but pretty much my build haha.

thanks man, it was a fun build. im not sure on the trails yet, the last two years i was rocking the 2wd auto that came with the engine. i just finished a r154/r150 hybrid swap to get 4wd back and it hasnt snowed since.

Welcome. Nice starting point, seeing your other rides will be interesting to watch your build.
No ˟˟˟˟ about front shock hangers being in wrong place. You got your work cut out for ya!

^haha rifht!? The dude was like yea it was dark and I barely had light and I wanted to get it done and leave so the welds aren't good... Like wtf why even do it? More work for me. Anways I finally dug into this thing, it's gonna be in revival mode for a few months just fixing and cleaning up previous owners work. Last 2 owners ran it hard and put it away dirty on top of no maintainence... Lol. So first on the list was the cracked bellhousing got that out and swapped yesterday. ˟˟˟˟ what a heavy bitch that tranny is.
Here's the crack it was so bad because it was between the slave cylinder so the clutch would spread the clutch.
Next up is correcting the rear pinion angle and then this thin will be pretty road worthy, except for the welded diff.... Previous owner of course. Gotta ditch that soon for the sake of these 12.5s lol. Celebratory "got to drive it to work photo with my coworker"

So iv taken the rig on two trips so far, central city area for those who are familiar with Co. I'm proud of it but it does need work. First off I realized previous owner installed the front springs backwards. I read the double wrap is supposed to be up front and also where it mounts to the Axel is off center, I was thinking how close my tires were to my firewall/inner fender. The shorter side is out back sitting the whole Axel a little farther back. Anwyhow here's some pics from the 2 trips. ˟˟˟˟ty tires held me back big time... Thinking about tthe course's for my next.

My shackle angles front and rear are also garbage... Pretty much vertical 90* any ideas on what I can do here? Id imagine longer springs? Take a spring out of my current packs? It's the all pro sas with 5 lift up front and 6 rear. I was going to go get my pinion angle changed this weekend but thinking about this more I don't want to do that unless I can stay at this height and resolve the issue. If pulling a spring is a possible id rather that then new springs completely.

In the front I'd start by turning those front springs around. The center pin isn't center equally, there's a long side and a short side measuring from The center pin to the spring eye where the bushing is. By turning the spring around facing the correct way it should improve your shackle angle issue and move your axel further forward so you'll have better clearance in the back of the wheel well at full stuff. If your shackle angle still sucks after turning the springs around you might need to move your front spring hanger to get your shackle angle better. Hopefully you won't have to move your steering box after turning those front springs around.
For the back you can move shackle mounts forward until you get the correct angle.
If you change your pinion angle on the rear you'll need a double cardon joint off a front driveshaft to put on the rear or you'll get vibrations. Once you do that just point the pinion at the rear t-case output and you should be golden. You can check my 86' V8 runner thread in my signature, I have pics of it.

Hahaha ˟˟˟˟... I actually have done both alone. No cb or anything I'm dumb I know. First trip I didn't know about the springs second I did. I didn't think that was that dangerous, and yea the no shocks sucks.

Got a bunch done yesterday. First off realized my springs were trail gear and not all pro ( probably why there bone rattling stiff) I got some random 3 inch lift Toyota leafs from the yard and pulled one stiff leaf from each pack and replaced it with the new soft I got. Front lowered about an inch. While up front I also flipped the springs around this set my Axel like 4 inches forward haha. Need new front driveline now. While doin the rear we saw someone previously had driled new center pin holes on the perches not only were they back farther they were off center... With new leafs and centered correctly the rear Axel moved back about 2 inche maybe. Ride is 10x better now the need for shocks is actually prevalent now when before on the stiff springs it handled fine without them haha. Rear is down maybe 2 inches too. Still need to move front hanger inward to correct front shackle angle and also delete the double shackle that's going on in the rear and see that shackle angle
Here's a before and after you can see the difference in wheel base. Now il be able to approach obstacles without my front hitting before my tires.
