los angeles area off-road extravaganza 2k2
okay, so i say us southern californians plan an off road get together. i've never been on one, so it'll sure be a learning experience for me. and i know there are a few other people on the board from the area. hopefully who have a good idea of where to go. i have a couple places i go, but i have a feeling there are better options. so let's plan something for around here, in LA county, but even ventura or orange. something that the 2wds can handle, and maybe some parts just for us 4wds? maybe for november or december? now that i've thrown this idea out, let's get some ideas to get the ball rolling...

That is a great idea. Another area that is not too far is Anza Borrego here in east San Diego County. Lots of trails with different terrain. If you guys start planning something count me in.

okay, bob_98sr5, you're in the LA area, any idea? or anyone else around here? sure there's off road evens in southern ca, but those are usually around san diego or way inland around san bernadino or something. let's plan something a little closer to the la/oc area. any ideas? if not y'll could always come up here to santa clarita, there's a few trails around here

Since you guys are new to offroading and 2WD might come along I have one piece of advice to offer...
Bring a nylon tow strap and a pair of D ring shackles like the ones pictured here. With these items you can pull each other over stuff that you wouldnt be able to get over otherwise and the 2WD guys don't have to be left behind. You can get the straps at your typical Autozone or Pep Boys type place for around $20 and the shackles can be bought at a hardware store for around $7 each. DO NOT get a strap with hooks on the ends, get one with loops only.
Have fun and take pictures.

The only places I know of are San Diego (anza borrego), San Bernardino Mtns, the off road park just north of magic mountain, and Pismo dunes/san luis obispo mountains.
I'm still trying to put together a joint norcal/socal run to pismo someday. I've been busy lately though.

. I couldn't remember the name of the place when I posted that. Now that I'm home I did a search and found it. It's called Hungry Valley SVRA. You can do a google search for that, Gorman, and Miller Jeep Trail for more info. Never been there myself though.
Nice website by the way,
Steve

There is an area up in big bear. Off of 38 you can take many of the trails to 3n16. Built rigs may want to take 3n69 (rated black). Where 3n69 meets 3n16 hang a left and cruise to 3n32 take this up many other trails. ie John Bull trail and others.

Kinda like LA encompasses everything from Norco to santa clarita to me.
