Thanks to all on this forum

I just wanted to thank everyone on this forum for the contributions each of you have made. To keep it short, I just purchased a 93 toyota truck for my sons 18th birthday. I chose toyota based on my knowledge of reliability and history of this truck. I also chose it because of its simplicity of being able to work on it without hiring a mechanic for everything. But the most important factor was to take the opportunity to be able to have a common interest with my son and development a long lasting bond that we will be able to become closer and development memories that will last forever. I know to some that may come across very "corny", the reason I'm expressing my thanks to all, is because it's working. My son is so excited, he has a deep interest in learning about engines now as well as how all parts of this truck work. I have been reading so much on this forum having to learn it all myself so I can teach him. The post and treads you all have made over the years has given me the opportunity to teach him. Without it I couldn't do it because I didn't know anything about engines or how they worked. I'm learning more every day. So I give my thanks to all of you. It's more fun than you can imagine.

It may be years before I would have the knowledge to contribute,. But for some reason now I want me one too. I love these little trucks. I had to introduce my son to manual windows and door locks, plus he had never seen the triangular old style vent windows.. He didn't know what they were.

We did our first compression check ever. With directions from this site, 238000 miles,... All cylinders were 178.

You will find wrenching with others is a rewarding experience. There a numerous things that can be done that just takes a little time. Cleaning, painting, lubricating parts can make a big difference. Anytime I have a bad part, it tear it apart to see how it works.

Boneyards can make a fun day for learning about your truck. Finding better or a more optioned truck and installing them on yours. How to disassemble a part in the yard when you are not sure on yours.

Look into all kinds of projects that can be done to freshen up your truck on the interior, exterior and engine bay. These are simple and easy projects that you and your son can do for little cost and make a big difference in your truck.

Welcome to Yotatech.

Thanks guys, been working on it all weekend. Found a leak in the power steering, took a while but figured out it was just a line. Looks like a special tool is needed to crimp it. Will do more research and figure out the tool I need. Also needs ball joints and some other front end bushings or whatever they are called that are dry rotted. But here's a pic of us working on it. We are starting to look like shade tree mechanics.
