Is it normal for the fan to run for the first few minutes after starting. I use my truck for hunting and as soon as I start the engine and for at least 3 minutes the fan runs. The fan is extremely loud so easing out of the woods is impossible. I just seems illogical that the fan would need to run when the engine has not even warmed up yet. Thanks.

Mine do that. Never timed them but they turn at full speed for a bit.
If you try and turn the fan with the engine off and cold you'll see that it's engaged.

It should run, but not for 3 minutes. Maybe 10 seconds. The fan clutch uses a thick liquid that settles in the bottom of the clutch, locking it up until it gets all slung around to where it needs to be.

My fan has the hoop ring connected to the end of the blades. Does this type of fan make more noise than a fan without the hoop, or does it matter. It is really noisy. My hunting buddies get annoyed when I drive through the woods saying they hear my fan "roaring".

This is normal. The hoop does not make a difference. May need a new fan clutch. Rock auto sells new ones.
